A few days ago, the documentary “Where Soldiers Come From” premiered at New York’s Village East Cinemas. According to Artinfo, Michigan Filmmaker Heather Courtney followed a soldier and his friends for 4 years to make the film. She said that she didn’t intend it to be political. It’s a film about growing up.

Dominic Fredianelli was the soldier. He certainly grew up, and fast. He signed up for the National Guard with some friends and ended up in Afghanistan hunting for roadside bombs. Upon returning home, the symptoms of traumatic brain injury quickly showed themselves. Dominic threw himself into street art and it proved to be excellent therapy. He re-enrolled in Finlandia University, MI, to complete a bachelors of fine arts. And on the side of a 120 ft. campus wall, he painted his story about growing up.
